What Would I Do if I Were 22

It's interesting, really interesting, when I received a mail from LinkedIn to write something on #IfIWere22. Interesting in the sense as it's just a wish, an impossible desire. How can I be 22 again after crossing it more than 22 years ago? The time is something that cannot be retrieved.  But #IfIWere22 hash-tag took me back to when I was 22. I never thought about it in so much depth before. That period was the most hectic phase of my life. Some of you might be wondering; but comparing to my present, or any past, the period of my 22 was the most engaging. I was doing my Bachelors from an evening college. My father was running an average-size construction company. I was my father's driver, secretary, office manager, business manger, procurement and finance incharge, and everything. I was with my father when I was just 19. So I had gained quite an experience at 22, making me more busy than ever. My day used to start at 4 a.m. in summers and 5:30 a.m. in winte...

Horrible, But It Was Just a Mistake! Really!!

I finalized the weekly report, ready to be sent to my manager and some relevant officials. It was the last item of my day's agenda. I reviewed it. I had joined this footwear manufacturing company just a month ago as Assistant Manager Sales (it was around 20 years back). The report was a pack of complaints, mentioning the weak performances, lagging behind schedules, financial problems, and so on. Preparation and dispatching of this report was my responsibility. After checking and counter-checking the report, I instructed my assistant to call our courier company's rep to dispatch the report to those relevant officials who were stationed at other locations (Emailing was not common those days). My assistant prepared the routine list of the recipients of the report, separating those whose mail would be delivered through the courier company. I checked the list. After carefully reviewing the mail list, I signed it. The rep came in and collected the envelops. That's al...

Leadership: Why and How People Agree a Person to be Their Leader

Leadership has always been a very hot discussion topic. Hundreds and thousands of discussions and publications are appeared, and appearing, to discover leadership and leaders; and their behaviors, qualities, different approaches, and so many other aspects. In this article, I am taking this topic from a different angle. Neither I am discussing the attributes of a leader nor his/her styles. What I am conveying is the perception of people as how they want and see their leader to be (all leaders, including corporate and public). When they are confirmed about a person having all what they want to see in him/her, the natural process of followership starts then.  Leadership is not a designated position. It's not a created post, neither it's an assigned responsibility. As indicated, Leadership is the free and unbiased perception of people around a person either to follow him (or her, of course) or not. If they agree and decide to follow him...

Business Opportunities are Everywhere

It was a rough and tough journey. We were traveling in a hilly area. The road was narrow, twisting, and climbing; surrounded by mighty mountains. This road was built by cutting the hills, so we were moving in the middle of the sky and the earth. One side of the road was walled by very high mountain rocks while the other edge was the end of the available land, into the hundreds of feet of deep ravine, where I could spot the glitter of the river flowing far below, just beneath the road. We were in a 4x4 double-cab pick-up truck, the most suitable vehicle for these terrains and roads. I was accompanying my friend, driving the pick-up. He was an expert driver, well familiar with the conditions, equipped with all the techniques required by this sort of journey. But above his driving skills, he was famous for his sharp business acumen. I always enjoyed being with him as I always learned a lot for every moment I spent with him. I was avoiding looking down the horrible depth of the rav...
